ABOUT YOGA HIVE
"Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind."
-The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

Yoga is an ancient practice, a science of self realization, that has been passed down from teacher to student for thousands of years... There are many different ways to practice. At Yoga Hive we challenge ourselves to honor the teachings of past masters but also to keep those teachings relevant and engaging, bringing the ancient wisdom of the sages into our modern times.

Teacher
FRANCINE - RYT 200
I love yoga and have been teaching this amazing practice for 5 years after completing my RYT200 training with Michael Lubbert. As a critical care nurse, I believe you can only care and uplift others if you are in a good place yourself. Yoga has helped me deal with the everyday stressors of life. I am excited to share with others the beautiful practice of linking breath with movement to help students feel relaxed, stronger, and more peaceful.

Teacher
BECKY - RYT 200
Yoga has been very healing for me both physically and mentally. When I started practicing, I had a knee injury. Yoga has allowed me to heal and stay healthy physically. It has also provided me with stress relief and a space where I can make room wherever I need it in my life. I have been practicing and teaching yoga since 2006. I earned both my 200-hour teaching level1 and 200-hr level 2 certification from Amazing Yoga.

Teacher
MYRA - RYT 500+
Over a decade ago a friend dragged me kicking and screaming to my first yoga class. I was a hard core athlete who thought stretching was for wimps. But after class I was really relaxed! It became a driving force in my life. I spent the next few years trying any and all styles from cranial sacral therapy to Zen archery. I changed the way I looked at everything. I let go of stuff, physical and emotional. Even made my way to a hot yoga class...It was perfect—the heat, the guidance, the breathing, the repetition, the stillness. It took a lot of guts to get through that 90 minutes, but I made it.
Immediately after final savasana I wanted to shout from the rooftops; "come to class!" Everyone in the world should know this feeling! There are no prerequisites. Come as you are, start where you are, and let the yoga work on you.

Director
CHARISSA - RYT 500
Charissa is a passionate yoga instructor certified in Original Hot Yoga (2024) and Vinyasa (2023). She read yoga books and practiced with videos as a child, but her teaching journey began in 2018 in Spokane, WA, as a therapeutic response to health issues from a 20-year tattoo career. Inspired by yoga’s healing power, Charissa pursued extensive training: RYT200 certification from Spokane's Abide Yoga Academy under C. Taylor Ring; Yoga Factory’s Vinyasa Teacher Training (2023), Original Hot Yoga Training (2024), and the Mehkala Green Belt program in Vedic meditation and pranayama. She focuses on sequencing and teaching with an emphasis on breath and body awareness. In her free time, Charissa enjoys nature, leisure cycling, vintage vinyl, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her cat, Jaeger. She also studied Holy Fire Reiki Levels 1 & 2 and has held a master-level Usui Reiki attunement since 2002.

Director
JUSTINE G - RYT 500
Justine began doing yoga as a supplement to her dance training through high school and college. However, she didn't start taking her practice seriously until 2012 when a hot yoga studio opened up in her hometown near Buffalo, NY. She fell in love with the Bikram method, and the way it made her feel physically and mentally challenged, yet restored at the same time. Justine graduated from Bikram’s Yoga College of India in Thailand in the Fall of 2014, and moved to Pittsburgh in 2016 where she continues to teach the 20&2 series.
Her favorite students are beginners, because there is so much exploration and openness in new students. She encourages everyone, herself included, to practice with a beginners mindset; always working to build a stronger foundation and see yoga in new ways.

Teacher
NIKIE B - RYT 500+
Nikie, a Pittsburgh native, was introduced to yoga in 2007 while playing lacrosse. She continued her practice when she moved to NYC in 2009 to attend NYU. Upon graduation in 2014, she completed a 200-hour Vinyasa training with Yoga to the People. While there she was introduced to the Traditional Hot Yoga Method which she found to be an extremely powerful mental and physical practice. In 2017 she completed training with Yoga Factory in the 26+2 series. In 2019 she studied with David Kyle's Progressive Ashtanga Vinyasa School and in 2020 completed Level 2 Rocket training. Nikie loves practicing and sharing yoga and is grateful to Yoga Factory for offering the opportunity to explore different styles and methods of practice. Yoga is for everyone, all bodies, all minds; an active mediation that can allow one to find strength to go within and create space for change and acceptance.

Teacher
DONNA R
2024 marks 20 years since Donna began teaching yoga. Her interest in the Wisdom traditions and Healing Arts was sparked during her training in dance, theater, and music, where she was introduced to Yoga, Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. She began her formal teacher training in Ashtanga Vinyasa, earning certification from It's Yoga SF with Rocket Yoga innovator Larry Schultz in 2004. She continued to teach and train in the SF Bay Area until 2008, when she returned to Cincinnati and founded Three Legged Dog Yoga Collective, a space for community and local teachers, now primarily a virtual school. In 2013, Donna began teaching Hot Yoga in Cincinnati and became immersed in the Ghosh Yoga lineage (Bikram Yoga and the classic 84 Asana system). In recent years, Donna has focused on Hatha Raja Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine, training in Meridian Yoga therapy, Acupressure, and bodywork with Rose Erin Vaughan, accumulating over 350 hours with the Science of Self school.

Teacher
ANSLEY V - RYT500
Ansley began practicing Vinyasa at age 15, with her first instructors on VHS cassettes in her living room. She found Hatha yoga while studying abroad in England. After graduating from Georgetown University in 2001, she found the 26 & 2 in San Francisco and traded washing the mirrors so she could practice every day. She fell head over heels in love with the series and its benefits. From then on, she has practiced yoga all over the world, especially in New York, Washington DC, Florida, Mexico, Thailand, and Pittsburgh, where she moved in 2013. She became a certified Hot Yoga teacher in 2022. She is proof that if you follow your true passions, you can live the life of your dreams. Namaste!

Teacher
STEVEN C- RYT500
When Steven first started yoga at 28 years old he came to heal his body. The healing that took place after only a few months of dedication was magical to his psyche! It was so empowering to take control of his physical well-being and heal long term injuries! It brought him back to faith in his own unique way, because to heal like he did he had to believe. As he kept practicing and progressing it became apparent that he had to share/inspire/help anybody he could! Steven strongly believes that focusing on wellness is a foundation for success in life and that is the core of what drives him. He can not wait to practice with anyone who is willing! Steven's hope is to inspire his students as much as all his amazing teachers inspired him. See you on the mat, yogis!

Teacher
MARK - RYT500
Mark is a Pittsburgh native who has been involved in sports and athletics for most of his life. He was involved in high school swimming and track as well as collegiate swimming. After college, he moved onto martial arts, earning black belts in two styles. In September 2007 after recovering from cancer, he tried various at-home intensive exercise programs; but, he was not reaching the fulfillment he desired, so he started a home yoga practice relying heavily on Rodney Yee Vinyasa yoga videos.
Mark took his first Hot Yoga class in May 2013 and knew from the first class that it was physically challenging. After several weeks he noticed that he was not only improving in strength and flexibility, but also emotionally, feeling much calmer. In 2019, with the support of his wife, son, and daughter, Mark successfully completed his first Yoga Factory Teacher Training. He hopes you will join him on the mat soon!
Common Questions
Privacy Policy
All of your information is kept confidential in MindBody. We don’t sell your information to anyone. Ever. And, you can always opt out of our newsletters at any time.

What kind of Yoga is taught at the Hive?
Yoga Hive instructors teach what inspires them, so each class/instructor has a different flavor. Stylistically, we mostly teach vinyasa, a term used to describe a flow that is put together with breath. Please see our schedule for more details on our class offerings.

How hot is it? Are you a “hot” yoga studio?
Classes are taught at approximately 85-90 degrees. In the winter we heat the studios to this range, but in the summer this may be the ambient temperature of the space.

What should I bring?
Your yoga mat! If you don’t have one, we can rent one to you for $3 and a mat towel for $3. We also sell a variety of Manduka and BeYoga mats. You may also want to bring water and a small towel.

What should I wear?
Wear clothes that allow you to move. Yoga pants, harem pants, yoga tanks, sports bras and t-shirts are common. Whatever you feel comfortable wearing and that you don’t mind getting a little sweaty.

Should I Wear My Smartwatch?
No. Unless you are under Doctor's orders to wear a smart device, do not bring it in the room. Make it a habit to disconnect with the constant pressures from these devices and focus on yourself...

I’m pregnant, can I still practice?
Yes! We are happy to accommodate you during your pregnancy. Please check with your OB to confirm that it’s a good idea for you. Several of our instructors have practiced throughout their pregnancies, but each body and each pregnancy is different. We encourage you to listen to your body and always make sure that you are breathing. When you aren’t breathing, the baby isn’t getting oxygen. You will also notice at a certain point that twisting and/or laying on your stomach is not longer comfortable or viable. The same will be true with backbending. But this happens at different points in every woman’s pregnancy. Please alert the instructor that you are pregnant, even if it’s early in the first trimester. And if you are not comfortable being assisted or adjusted during practice, let us know!

Beginners
I’m a beginner and don’t know where to start.
Welcome! We are glad you found us. Classes at the studio are considered All Levels, which means that we have people of all backgrounds and fitness levels in our classes. Since we are a vinyasa studio, the flow can feel intimidating at first. But, know that each time you show up you will learn something new. Commit to coming back several times a week and we know you will be hooked. Tell the instructor that you are new and set-up in the middle of the room so that you can watch practice from all sides.
Each year we hold several beginner workshops and we strongly encourage you to participate – even if you’ve been practicing for awhile. They will help you with alignment and will enable you to ask specific questions.

What if I’m not flexible?
Don’t worry – that’s why we practice yoga.
